Sketchbook Stuff

Hands. And a face.
Attempts at some caricatures.
I had a folded paper, so I made things interact with the fold.
It says "Gerryatrics" but got cut off.

Yesterday I saw the Terra Cotta Warriors at the Asian Art Museum.  So, I drew the horses and not the warriors...and here are sketches from that:
While drawing the above head, an older woman talked with me about art and how her friend does watercolors.  She also thought I was a boy.  But the museum thought I was a "youth", so at least I got an $8 discount.

Screen Cap #14

Well.  Didn't finish laying in all the objects and got caught up in the trellis thing in the back.  I want to do a better study of Lucille's face another day because that expression is really great.  Also, skin colors are especially hard to match!  Maybe I'll also stick to a palette in the future as well.

All the Arrested Development screen caps are from here.

Approx. 1 hr.

Playlist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Veragroove

Screen Cap #13

Not a movie, but hopefully it will be soon!  Also, this is about 30 minutes late.  I'll do another painting later today.  Because I'm done with finals.

I miss school already.

Took about an hour.

Screen Cap #12

Strawberry Fields...

I tried messing with blurring things, and clearly (hah) that was a mistake.
Approx. 30 min.

My back hurts from slouching all day at the computer.

Forest! Day/Night

Finally done with my forest scenes!  It was a long process, but I learned SO much because of it.
I see tons that I'd like to fix in both paintings, but I turned them in already and I still have to paint a screen cap for today!

Final Reel

Final reel for my Beginning 3D Animation class!  These were all done in Maya.  The music at the end is "Pursuit" (David Arnold/Michael Price) from the Sherlock soundtrack.

I reel-ize that this video extends beyond the blog column.  But this is the size I reel-y want it played at.   For reels, though.

Side note: WHAAAAT??!?!?!
Not cool, Wes Benninghoff...not cool...

Screen Cap #11

Some guy in a bath.

This took a really long time.

Screen Cap #10!

Aww yeah.  Double-digits.  I have now done ten screen caps yaaaaayyyyyy!

"Atonement" - I guess I should watch this movie one day.  It looks really nice.

Approx. 1 hour digital painting

Skin tones + hands + ovals + blurry background = HARD TO PAINT
It was a fun challenge, but a challenge for sure.

Screen Cap #8

Yeah so another Harry Potter.  I got a ton of screen captures from maybe five movies from this site so I'm going to have repeat movies.  Often.  But new bits every time.

So.  Harry Potter!  Yay!

From Movie:

My version aka "Ovals Are Aard and Ron's Head Is Not This Big"

Screen Cap #7

Today was the last day of class for the semester!  I'm pretty introverted usually, but I've really enjoyed meeting all of the people that I have this school year, and simply talking more with people who have been in classes before.

From movie (Atonement):

My version. Took 30 minutes:

Clearly much to work on.

I just realized I forgot the lamp in the upper-left area.

Screen Cap Stuff

So. I'm behind in screen caps already.  I'm home this weekend for Mother's Day without my tablet, so that's my excuse.  In the meantime, look at Danny Trang's screen caps!  He told me about the website I'm getting screen caps to paint from! (

I don't want this post to go without some art, so here's a picture of some art I found on campus:

For reals.

Screen Cap #6

Yup, Amelie again. Approx. 45 minutes.

Again, screen caps I'm using are from here!

Also, the band I'm in, The Lion Engineer, has part of our upcoming single in this book trailer on which bandmember Peter Le worked!:

Playlist: She & Him, Fitz & the Tantrums, Sia, Lana Del Rey

Screen Cap #5

From "Les Miserables".  Haven't seen it, or read it.  Took about half and hour.

Pokémon Art Gallery!

Recently, I participated in the Rare Candy charity art gallery with a Pokemon theme!  I randomly got assigned Alakazam, and because he comes with two spoons, I made him eat soup!  But there are 150 other artists that did pieces, too, and they are fantastic!  Please bid on some pieces!  All proceeds are for Canines For Disabled Kids!  The gallery at Umpqua Bank is from Mon-Thurs 9-5, Friday 9-6 until May 17th!  So, look at the gallery there, and bid online!!  DO IT!!!

Screen Cap #4

From "Atonement," one of many movies I've never seen.

Screen Cap #3

You didn't think I could go this long without painting something HP related, did you? :-)

Half-Blood Prince, around 30 minutes.  Really hard to stop painting when I want to fix so much of it! alsdkjf;sdj

Again, screen caps I'm copying are from here.

Playlist: She & Him (new cd!), Fitz and the Tantrums (new cd!), The Great Gatsby (new cd!), and playing Nancy Drew (new game!).  It's been a really good day!

Screen Cap #2

I need to set time limits because if I want to paint one a day it will take a very long time how I'm doing it now and it's not keeping the same feeling.  Here's Amelie (great movie, by the way):

Screen Cap Thing #1

I'm going to try and do a screen cap study every day now!  I don't know how long this took, but here's one from The Artist.  I got the screen caps from here.

It needs a lot of work, but by doing this every day I just might improve. :-)
